'WigWag' or 'Flasher' Units

One of the most important functions of Landing Lights is to improve your plane's visibility to other aircraft. Flashing the aircraft's lights by using a "wig-wag" circuit contributes significantly to "be-seen" visibility, especially when approaching and operating near an airport. There are several types of devices that can be added to accomplish this. Below are vendors we're aware of...

  • Aero Electric Connection
The model SSF-1 from electrical guru Bob Nuckolls 'at AeroElectric Connection is available through B & C Specialty (along with lots of other great electrical supplies) (not recommended for HID lights).
  • Perihelion Design
A light weight solution from Eric Jones (not recommended for HID lights).
  • XeVision
XeVision has developed a Flasher device that can safely flash HID lamps now.  There is ‘some’ loss of bulb life, but it will not be significant enough to affect most users. This is a fantastic unit and is available from Duckworks for RV and Sonex builders.

REMEMBER: Not all wig-wags will work with HID lights!  Be sure you use one specifically designed for use with HID units.
